A Meandering Post With Pictures

Here's what it looked like from my back porch, Saturday morning.

I know, I know, I keep taking pictures of the same trees, at about the same time of day. But it's so pretty! Very fortunate am I, that I have that view out the kitchen window every morning while making coffee. Besides, if I keep this up, I'll have enough photos to do my own themed calendar.

I got some words in yesterday, and will get a few more in today, split between Sand and Crossroads. I really, really need to focus on the wellness books, and the outline of another non-fiction book burst from the mind fully formed yesterday. This makes me look longingly at Christmas break, when my naturally productive writing hours--which happily correspond with hours Dev wants to go do his own thing--can be spent actually writing. And other hours can be spent at fun places like the Indianapolis Museum of Art (and that counts as school for Dev, too!), the Slippery Noodle (where I'm hoping to arrange a tour of the building), and going on my first geocaching adventure with a friend (an excursion that counts as research).

Dev and I will be on our own for Christmas day, so we're weighing some different options. We don't want to sit at home all day. We don't want to spend it with someone else's family, either, regardless of how much we love our friends. (It would feel different if it were a gathering of friends, I think.) We've talked about visiting the long-term care center my friend manages, or the VA hospital, or taking the holiday shift at the animal shelter. Dunno. We'll decide by next week.

Lastly, I braved the cold this morn to creat this picture for my nephews. Because fun matters. :)

That car looks quite happy about the snow. :D

It's beautiful. Do they get the streets cleared quickly after it snows?

It's difficult to split time between numerous projects sometimes, isn't it?

Oh, what a lovely way to spend Christmas! You and Dev are such awesome people!

Some of the streets are quickly cleared, like those main roads through town. But we're three miles outside the city limits, so our county roads might see on or two plow passes in 24 hours. What makes it treacherous, though, is the patchiness of the remaining ice and snowpack. No salt or chemicals can be used to treat the roads because it would run off into the surrounding farmland. We get sand dumped at intersections, and that's about it. :)

It's been a week, and several of our north-south roads are still more snowpack than pavement. Considering the weather report--temps no warmer than 34 degrees for yet another week!--it'll be snowpacked quite awhile longer.

As for what Dev and I are doing on Christmas... Really, it's our way to avoid sitting at home thinking about how we're just sitting at home. We'll both feel better if we get out and do something for the sake of someone else.

Thank you!

It was a lovely rose glow this morning, but way too cold to go outside for a picture. :)
