Dog Show Correction

Dev and Ty actually won second place -- not third.

Last night, when the results were read and awards given out, I could have sworn the scores were going lower while the placings were getting higher.  But I figured the announcer read them incorrectly, or I'd misheard because the PA system was lousy.  And I didn't want to trot over to the judges and be That Mother--the one who is certain her child was slighted and demands a recount.*

Dev wasn't overly concerned, so we figured we'd just check the scores when they were posted today.

Lo and behold, the top five were all out of order.  Fourth place was correct, but second and third were reversed, as were first and fifth.  One of the most level-headed judges was notified, and the auditors had to go through all the scoresheets again.  By the end of the day, we were told "The situation will be remedied, and everyone will be notified by email."  That means they know there's a problem, and really don't want to make a big deal out of it, but they'll fix it quietly.

No problem.  The last thing Dev wanted was another announcement over the PA, where some kid who thought he'd taken first would find out he really hadn't.

As for agility--no placing.  BUT we were thrilled with Ty's run because it was the first time all year he didn't knock over a single jump.  Not bad for an eleven-year-old puppy. :-)

An added bonus for the weekend was discovering we could crate Gambit in the heavy duty crate--which is too heavy for him to roll around the house like a giant hamster ball--and he will remain calm while we're gone.  It's the first time I've ever crated an animal, but Gambit becomes destructive when left home alone.  He even curled up to sleep in the crate for a little bit last night.

An extra added bonus was the chance to watch Dev really enjoy himself with his friends, their parents, and grandparents.  He can be almost old-fashioned polite with the elderly one moment, then turn around and pitch popcorn kernals at his buddies the next.  It's quite entertaining.

*There are an annoyingly high number of such parents involved in the 4H dog project, alas.  Stage moms ain't got nothin' on dog moms.
